UPDATE: Powering the BS1

Hello!
According to Mike the typical 9V battery clips are designed to be installed into a PCB and hence they are wired differently then all of us expect. That was confirmed also by one other.

Then, I simply wired together two and included a slide switch. The wiring was as follows, the red one one went to a black lead. The red on the other was connected to that slide switch, and had the black lead connected there.

From there an ordinary battery could be attached and with the other connected to the regular BS1 board. However an outfit calling itself
Tinkersphere http://tinkerspere.com sells from both their website and a store in NYC these items:
A female DC Jack Adapter with screw terminals http://tinkersphere.com/power/380-female-dc-jack-adapter-with-screw-terminals-55x21mm.html

A enclosed battery holder for the 9V with a switch, http://tinkersphere.com/batteries-holders/724-enclosed-9v-battery-holder-with-onoff-switch.html

And of all things a regular 9V clip attached to the classic barrel connector. http://tinkersphere.com/arduino-compatible-components/131-arduino-battery-adapter-9v.html

I bought two of the battery holders, two of the jack adapters, one of the battery holder (9V clip with barrel connector which is male) and today wired them together. I then snapped the 9V clips to the appropriate places. Incidentally the wiring between the holder and the connections on the Stamp were provided using a RS Adaptaplug for the classic USB connector at one end, and wires at the other. Plugged into the Adaptaplug with a USB connector was a prewired barrel connector to a matching USB connector.

The stamp works perfectly.

As it happens the enclosed 9V battery holder is carried by two other places, one is Adafruit for a slightly higher price. As is the 9V clip with barrel connector. (Actually its just one cent of difference between the two places.)

The shop in Texas does sell the 9V battery holder also, but at difference of 17 cents.

Obviously someone on this forum would be interested in all of this, which is why I've written this rather long explanation.
