San Diego Maker Faire Oct 3-4 2015

Anyone going?

http://sdmakerfaire.org/

One of the chief organizers showed up to my last meetup(!?) and talked me into presenting. I will do a free booth, because I don't plan on selling anything. There will be a couple of prizes. With only 11 roboticist days to go I have to work fast. I will not be in the multi-rotor area, which is fine and less complicated.

If you have eye-catching and fun past projects (BS2 or Propeller) I can use please plug them here. My goal is to use fun stuff to get attention and then roll out some simple projects anyone can do.

Thanks!

At least it's the week before Robothon, at first I though they conflicted!

Never been to a Maker Faire. Hmmm...
  • You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Makerville and show everyone how deep the rabbit-hole goes.

Pfizer describes the pills somewhat differently.

I will probably be going. I haven't been to a Maker Faire for 2 years and San Diego is about 2 hours away from where I live so I won't have to pay for a hotel.

Not sure yet if I'll bring the family.

  • Didn't even know about it until reading this thread.
I might show up for the 4th (have plans already for the 3rd).
  • That would be great, as we get closer I will have more info on the booth's location.

I've never been to one, but I have heard from several exhibitors that they are becoming more kid-centric in a bad way. Like uninterested parents wandering through just looking to drop their kids off at workshop after workshop. I hate to think that's the norm.
  • It seems almost entirely word of mouth. Nobody I know has heard about it. They're calling it one of the few "full-scale" maker events in the world. I feel like I'm coming down with a cold. If I am ill prepared, <pause for effect> I'll be at the Air and Space Museum handing out discount coupons for discovery flights. Then cleaning them all up when everything is over lol.

Amid air rockets, inflatable robots, steam-powered vehicles and other awe-inspiring tech gadgets, Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer and Councilmember Todd Gloria ride a crawling robot into Balboa Park’s Plaza de Panama to promote innovation at the first annual San Diego Maker Faire and the Balboa Park Centennial’s fall signature event of the year. The San Diego Maker Faire is scheduled for October 3rd and 4th of 2015. Go to SDMakerFaire.org for more information.
  • I wonder if the Q or pirogue food trucks will be there. I love Q, but have been wanting to try the pirogues. I hear good things.

Looks like fun. Too bad that's my twins' birthday weekend.

Jon, you and I will meet up soon. Not tonite, not next weekend, but soon!
