For a while I have been thinking about low cost underwater sonar systems for underwater robots.
After all, the air-based robots have long cracked this problem with the PING-type modules and software to match.
This excellent practical paper (which is freely available on the internet), is a definitive starting point for making low cost underwater ultrasonic sensors;

I can't help thinking that the Prop would be a good controller for this type of system.
Any ideas out there on how existing air-based ultrasonic ideas and software could be harnessed for underwater use?
