Well, the greater danger might have the same source -- bored people seeking amusement by generating misinformation and acrimony that are serviced by those that seek perpetually higher viewerships.
Puzzling through some complicated FPGA code seems far more pleasant than trying to follow the news. I may start wearing a helmet and flak vest when taking in the news.
Well based on what I've seen he very well may have made a hoax bomb. What other purpose is there to take a manufactured alarm clock and attach it to a manufactured suitcase?
Thinking it's a real bomb is dumb, but thinking it's intentionally made as a hoax bomb isn't that much of a stretch.
I can't really find a way that he didn't intentionally draw attention to this thing outside his Engineering class. I think the odds are he intended it as a hoax bomb to get attention and possibly start a media 54!7storm.
From the sounds of things this may have been suggested to him by his family.
I really don't know what happened but as more facts come in it sounds more and more to me that he was trying to get attention the way that "open carriers" get attention in the US.
I don't think this is about creationist vs muslims, though part of the public argument will be about that sure.
As far as I know I never did something like what he did. I took apart stuff and put it together. I never took something apart to make it look different with no functional purpose and call it an invention.
I'm not saying he did, I'm saying there's a chance that he did indeed make a hoax bomb. And as far as ascribing sophistication, you can't fully rule out this kid's dad.
The whole thing stinks.
Either way, I'm still going to work on electronics in the mall to help raise awareness that not everything with wires is a bomb.

Have you never done such a thing? Kids do all kind of weird stuff.
Assuming it was deliberately a hoax bomb designed to start a media "54!7storm" ascribes more sophistication to Ahmed than I think he has.
The story is about creationists vs muslims.
Sad but true. That is a debate I don't want to have here.
Perhaps a moderator could lock this thread.

Quite right . I think this thread has taken it's course end.
We will see what the lad does in a year or two.
