Prop 2 Fall Gathering

Back in Spring (2015), it was said that a big gathering would happen to celebrate the Prop 2 release. Is this "gathering" still happening? What is planned for show & tell? Will resumes be accepted? What kind of food will be available? Alcohol allowed?

We are just getting ready for synthesis now. We'll have the Prop2 running on FPGA's shortly, but the chip prototypes are still at least 6 months away.

    So maybe a Spring Fling?

I thought that the fall event was supposed to coincide with the arrival of the 1-2-3 board and FPGA images not actual chips. Couldn't it happen before Spring?

We could do it in Oct-Nov timeframe and use the FPGA boards.

I'm up for that. Honestly, doing it makes a ton of sense. Some of us are up for getting P2 ready for more general use. The product of that will make an event related to the real chips that much better.

Based on the results of our last FPGA adventure, a lot of basic work needs to get done before the real chip arrives. A gathering would improve that effort, IMHO.

  • An FPGA hack-a-thon*! Sounds like a lot of (productive) fun, wish I could make it.

Can we make it a webinar??

*I was going to say debug-a-thon but I wanted to stay positive!!
  • I think it's better to wait until we have actual working silicon before having a big event. The spring would make more sense anyway, the old UPEWs were in late spring.
Fall is kind of a busy time for a lot of folks, with travelling to see family for various holidays.
  • A while back I indicated somewhere that a proper planning horizon for a P2 event at Parallax would be "six months after we have a fully functional FPGA board". We still don't have that board, so we shouldn't consider the event yet. And I'm a marketing/sales person, so this is hard for me to say. We need to wait.

  • Makes sense to wait.

Will it be a 1 or 2 day event? Tech showcases? Food? Booze?
  • ... and badges?

I just went once there to the 'propeller mecca' but booze seems not in the picture. Food on the other hand is sort of special. Besides making Chips, @Chip makes Chips also! Tortilla Chips to be more precise. Versatile as he is, he build some sort of tortilla manufacturing line. There is some thread about it.

So food you will get (and remember) but booze - hmm - seems not. The Staybridge(?) Hotel I stayed in had the bar closed but a small walk away was some mall with some bars. So not too bad.

As I was there it was a two day event and full of fun. Some forum vendors had small tables, a lot of other members did some presentations, lots of the Parallax crew where there, we could take a peek at the facility, production, packing and meet a lot of very interesting people working there.

As a Muslim who should to go to Mecca once in his life, any Parallax fan should visit Rocklin. At least once. It is worth any minute.

I hope I do not anger any Monkeys by mention a religion.

So in short - if you are able to get there - do it. I am sure you will not regret it.

    Enjoy!

Of course there will be Badges!
But it's different at Parallax, you have to learn how to burn... :) err, i mean solder...

Seems it would be best to wait until the first working Chips are in hand.

Maybe Parallax could sell a simple P2 PCB signed by Chip (limited number) ;)
  • I sure would love a good excuse to visit ye olde Parallaxeth Headquarters again! :)
