Parallax Twice on Top Ten Great Bots List

This news is too doggone good to be confined to the Robotics forum. Boebot (4) & Sumobot (9) made RT's Great Bots for Beginners. I suppose including the S1/S2/S3 or Activitybot would have made the results too lopsided.

Nice! The list has robots for all ages so it could go in any order.

Hard to argue with that list as they're all good robots.

I would be tempted to remove the OWI Edge arm from the list. It looks awesome, but the USB interface is absolutely wasted without feedback. It stores scripts by how long (timing) to run each motor. No repeatability whatsoever as battery voltage and loads vary, an exercise in frustration for budding roboticists.

The wired remote control works fine though. Of course it's a 5-axis arm. Too bad no one sells the Armatron any more. Full 6-axis arm, only one motor, two speeds on 4 axes. A marvel of electromechanical design, still worthy of study.

I always say, there's nothing like a 100 watt PC with a Flash GUI to remote control a plastic arm with no feedback over a crippled interface.

Merely a case of being in the right place at the right time with the right stuff.
Some people just have excellent brain waves. My own are rather dubious. :sick:

I think the Sumobot is wonderful and often overlooked. One doesn't have to remain in the mini-class and struggle with the class restraints, bigger Sumobots can do a heck of a lot more to defeat an opponent.
