    Top Tip !

If you order one of the new Parallax badges (due on sale next week-ish), you'll get both a 14500 Li-ion "AA sized" 3.7V 800mAh rechargeable battery AND a charger !

The badge is powered by that battery, has a built in battery holder and a built in battery charger !!

.... or in Erco style.... order 5 badges and you'll get 5 14500 batteries and charges !!! :)

The cells are on the top and the charging circuitry...

and safety elements of the Boe-Bot Lion Packs are on the bottom of the board...

A word about safely charging the Lion Cells. Although many (not all) lion cells have built-in protection circuitry, our Lion boards have some redundant safety circuitry as well.

Both the standard board (big one with extra terminals for more application happiness) as well as the Boe-Bot version have built in over-heat detection as well as defective cell detection (will not try to charge the cell if it is defective). The over-temp detector can be seen if you remove the cells from their holders. It's a surface mount temp detector that's tied into each (independently) of the cell charging circuits...therefore each cell is charged and monitored for proper charge profiles and will shut down if it detects an un-safe condition. ('course nothing is perfect but there's some redundancy built in to each of these products).

  • Thanks for the pic of the back Matt! Mine was supposed to arrive today, but USPS must be taking the day off. :)

Good to see you back on here.

    Hello!
Yes indeed. So far that confirms a theory. And naturally Publison, actually I arranged that delay. Yours should arrive tomorrow or Monday if the tortoise who delivers your mail is working this shift.

Meanwhile I'm still single-stepping my way through that idea. Folks please examine that site I mentioned earlier. (I've got nothing to do with them, I just thought it would be a good fit.)

Incidentally the blurb from above regarding those badges confirms a theory. And why all of you may ask? I have family who lives in Arcata who's a good distance away from Sacramento, but not as far away as SFO is.... So I'll probably be seeing all of you at Parallax RSN.

Radio Shack Product Alert 18650 Batteries with protection circuit!

    http://www.radioshack.com/digital-energy-3-7v-2000mah-18650-li-ion-flattop-w-pcb/2302471.html

    Good news: 1/2 price clearance.
Bad news: RS is now getting adamant about all sales final, even if it is defective.

I have been running an Activity Bot, ( servos back and forth), for three hours, and they still show fully charged on Parallax 28988 board.

Funny, not really, when I first called my local store to see if they carried 18650 batteries, the response was, never heard of them , we have AA, AAA, CRXXX etc. I gave them their SKU, a five minutes later they came back as said yes we have them.

    Hello!
Okay-dokey. So your using the Board Small instead of Board Large with them. Interesting. I have those. And sadly I can't get them fit in easily in Board Large. Once in place the board does not tell the attached BOE that they are there.

    This is getting very interesting.......

And which was your local store? (again)
  • The new batteries are a *very* tight fit, but when they are in, they will stay. And they are not even button top.

I'm an hour away in SW CT.

  • I'm a train and some buses mass transit person, figure an hour and half.

    Okay.

This is become a case of "definitely maybe" for buying the small set, and the regular set of batteries for the big set.

Small set refers to the box you're using. Big set refers to the one that started this discussion.

And as it happens they, (meaning RS) do sell button top batteries.

As four very well known philosophers (they wore the same hair style as the Second Doctor and even a noted physical comedy specialist as well) once sang, "Very strange."

    Parallax, erco, someone please comment.

What is the exact question(s). It's hard to tell without specifics.

BTW, erco does not work for Parallax, (but I bet he would like to :) )

What I mean here, is that I'm still traversing through a cave and it resembles the one from the first adventure game that was in a lot of computers systems, "Adventure" by name. And in this case those comments are the equivalent of the gold and jewels that the player finds.
  • What is the question that has to do with a specific Parallax product?

Your nonsensical responses might get this thread closed.
  • How so?
So far my responses, while hardly nonsensical have brought more out.

Actually you already answered it earlier, it did concern Parallax 28988 board and actually the interesting part was that regarding those oddball 18650 batteries from Radio Shack, and how they fit, or in actuality don't fit in that particular design.

And as earlier discussed the only unique thing about them was the number, and that the ones Matt described were the actual ones.

As it happens, If you want us to move onto something else, I'm open. I was simply looking for more information regarding the boards, and those batteries. And definitely interesting.

And I described my reasoning as applied to yours. I then explained how my mind unraveled this entire problem and how the problem resembles that particular game. I would say if we end the game or rather the thread now, we'll end up with a total of 350 points and definitely a good solution.
