Who's Online?

I see a new feature on the left... Who's Online. But the only user shown is me. Am I the only one online?

No, can't be. Heater. is always on line too. Maybe Ken, you should make him a moderator! :innocent:

  • No, according to the page, I am the only one who's online! What are you doing here?

At 4:14 PM, it's me and Phil

Edit: Times above are Eastern Daylight
  • It's only 1:15pm, is that a prediction?
  • I'm sorry, Sapphire, you aren't online, you can't be responding to any of this.

(I'm thinking this feature may need a bit of work)
  • I'm not really here...
  • Right now, just Sapphire and me...

Seems only Heater is on line here.

I do so much like talking to myself :)

I would hope so at least. Generally there are half a dozen PC's around the world powered up and logged in as me. Just in case I happen to drop by and want to ramble a bit.

Please add a way to opt out of who's online.

(Never mind I found d the settings)
  • That's screwy.

    It shows that I'm online

    Someone else must be online.
  • Since the thread is about Who's online I miss the total visitor's

number and being able to see everybody that is signed in.

Online, shmonline. Who cares who's online? We have voting. :)
  • Can we vote for people to go online or offline?
  • Who will be voted off in the next episode of Parallax Island? :)

(Obviously, there's no one to read this, since I'm the only one online.)

I think the issue might be a latency setting that's set too low. IOW, you're only "online" for five seconds after you link to, or refresh, a page.

I think you are right, by refreshing often enough I can catch someone else on the forum.

(had to edit to change the image and found out that it's not that straightforward)

  • I am just curious as to how this thing works, does the "Who's online" show specifically who is reading your thread or who is in the forum category? I noticed that the "Who's online" does not show up when you are in a forum category.

    Ray,

I think it's work in progress.

  • There seems to be an update there now as for the first time ever I see 6 names online, all with the same current timestamp though.. Now it's dropped down to two and refreshed in another window as three so it seems that it still has a latency setting that is too low.

I'm curious now - where are those opt-out settings ?

Ah, found it : on left menu list, under Home › Profile › Edit Profile

  • I prefer "logged in". The opposite of online is offline. Offline is bad for business.
  • I'm not sure how "logged-in" works. Theoretically, I'm always logged in. (Or do I re-login every time I click a forum link or reload a page?) Whatever the case, that doesn't mean I'm always around to pay attention to what's going on.

I think the best strategy is to set the latency time to 30 minutes from the last forum click.

    Heater would be an excellent moderator, well at least until the first mention of an OS that should not be named arises (:<>}

  • I think I am all along, but....
    wait, wait, ah............

Yes, a bit slow to get updates. I think I will go hide.
  • Today, first time ever to see names in the whos online...

It looks like it is showing who is online logged in for the particular thread, not the entire forum.
