While working on the Electronic Conference Badge I bought a few of these Adafruit 128x64 displays and made a little handheld laser rangefinder. Some video:

    Great presentation, Ken!

    Great for all sorts of ground based projects, but we need Kyle to put on on an ELEV-8 to see altitude readings. I would do it if I had one. :)

    Nice system build and presentation. If you place the rangefinder on a rotating base with a vertical panning (both with encoders) and stream out the polar coordinates and distances you will have dirt-cheap 3D laser scanner!
