Back on August 10th, Jen made an announcement that the proto-board is back in stock,

http://forums.parallax.com/discussion/161874/the-return-of-the-propeller-proto-boards#latest

Maybe her post got buried, but just to remind everyone that they are in stock.

Many of the forum members made it clear that they wanted this particular board back at the Parallax store.

I have seen one board sold in the last week. 'Sup with that?

    Search me.
I bought mine from one of the Micro Centers in my area. Next I'll probably order its accessory kit.

Actually the problem with selling them is the fault of someone here.

  • I was one of those people, and I was going to order. I didn't see the 5 pack for $99, which is a big part of why I liked the Protoboard so much. The project board at the same price seems more appealing now. Sorry to be a pain!

  • Okay, never mind I see the price break on 5+ units. SOLD!

As mentioned, I got caught off guard, but I will be stocking up as soon as the funds are available.

Yes Bruce, we talked about it, good news is there are plenty left!

    Buck, could you elaborate?

If I recall there were many people that asked for this platform to be brought back into production. It's not like Parallax was pushing these on people, but people were asking for it. Now that it has been brought back, it doesn't seem like people want to purchase these anymore. I'm sure it was no simple matter for Parallax to put these back in production especially with propeller chips being not in stock, they had to allocate at least 150 to produce these boards.

I'd be delighted. The biggest problem is that people in some cases (I know I do) prefer to buy our supplies not directly but from brick&mortar vendors.

In the past few years since resuming my efforts, after confirming that Micro Center sold Parallax items by the shipping container load, I ended up buying my items from them almost exclusively.

However they don't sell BS1 units, and the accessories for the BS1, so that's a step in the right direction for Parallax. They also don't sell extra RFID cards, they only sell the readers. I bought a batch from Parallax.

I'm convinced that the best way to make this work, would be to provide premiums to these stores, let us say that for every 100 items sold, they get to sell an extra fifty with certain extras. As for those extras, perhaps including anything the imagination asks for.

I mean look at the absurd car advertisements.

In my case I bought my Prop board from them because it was convenient and that the thing was on discount. However they are trying to discount the QS's sidecar board the one with the Ethernet features.

This is not negative complaints towards Parallax. These are aimed at any vendor who's members are in this forum who read them regularly, not including anyone who works for RS.

Now what we need to discuss is a Hackerspace distribution channel. Oddly enough, the firm's next door neighbor, that of Secret Labs, is considering it, especially since the bulk of my work with their products take place in the one that runs concurrent with my Linux User's Group one.
  • Hackerspace distribution, I like the sound of that!

  • Buck Rogers, that plans just crazy enough to work!
  • I'm curious, since this board and the USB version are the same price, why do people buy this one? The USB version also has the more uncluttered prototyping area, so it just seems better. But I could be missing something.
  • From my perspective and usage, this board gives you access to regulated 3.3V and 5.0V. I still have accessories, that I use, that need 5.0V. If the USB version would have access to a regulated 3.3V and 5.0V, then I would probably find more usage for the USB version.

I also like the 5.0 volt regulator with the connection to the servo ports. Makes servo projects go faster.
I also like the ability to add keyboard, mouse, and VGA with one product:

I also do not like having to put a barrel jack on the Project Board, most of my projects use Wall Warts.

The new revision is great, thanks. The Propeller Proto Board is great for the BOE Bot chassis. I'm glad to see you continuing with it. I would think anyone with a BS2 BOE Bot who wanted to try out the Propeller would buy one and a prop plug.

Publison, my mistake, I thought you were raising an issue concerning the board with attached USB. This one shown needs the propclip to be used.

And koehler yes it is an excellent one. Problem is that Secret Labs realized that it is totally new to them, and anathemic. They, ah, don't know how to apply it.
