"Popular" tags

I can't seem to avoid the clutter of the "Popular tags" on my phone and as I pointed out early in the migration, these tags aren't necessarily "popular". Let's have a look at the top 12:
So the extinct javelin is more popular than the P2 and the Basic Stamp tops them all? Go figure. I can only assume that certain Parallax product tags were automatically appended to all threads at the time of migration but that doesn't explain the "popular" part. Surely a popular category should be based on recent activity and not past glory?
But anyway, the main point is since this section is useless and it just clutters up the small screens, could we have it removed?
P.S. I'm sure it's been mentioned too about the "categories" section too, no need to clutter the screen here since we have a "categories" link already.
- basic stamp 30,511
- propeller1 24,807
- robotics 5,899
- sx chips 3,634
- sensor 1,792
- education 1,459
- javelin 1,075
- project 1,007
- wireless 545
- spinneret 507
- propeller2 436
- verilog dev 199

We have been assured that the tags feature is staying though.
If people start using it, it will evolve into something....if it goes unused, then it is a distraction on the side of the page.
How on earth have you all managed to turn an innocent discussion on forum tags into a debate on file systems and linux GUI's ???? !!!!!
Please try not to drift so ! Beware the moving floors....
if you are going to pull my contributions to any thread or lock a thread I create, I expect an email notification.
I don't know what you did hear, but so far my email box is empty.
Loopy, I am not sure where this is coming from. Do you have a specific post that you can share? Moderators do not just delete things out of the blue. There is usually a indication if a thread will be shut down.

Please refer to the note at the top of the OS thread, and please consider that I might not have time to deliver personal notices whilst busy trying to keep the forum tidy for ALL members.

Hope this explains.
Frankly, you may just be getting busier and busier in the future.
