Integrating the RN42 Bluetooth Module into my PCB

Hello,
Does anyone know if I can just take the schematic provided by Parallax, for the RN42 Bluetooth Module #30086 and incorporate it into my PCB design and layout so that I do not have to have a whole module separate from my board? I am making sure, as I see on the module they have a port for "factory programming" while I cannot find what that programming may be. I have my prototype working with the module, I would just like to buy all the components separately and be free of the module.
Thanks,

  • That should be possible. I did it with the HC-06 module making an add-on board for the EFX-TEK HC-8+ controller. Reprogramming the HC-06 is finicky so I wrote a Propeller app just for it. So far, so good.
I've attached a 3D model becuase it's easier to see the simplicity of the design; we have in fact built units and they work fine.

Your best bet is to just use the RN42 module (that's the PCB with the antenna and RF shield on it) directly on your production PCB. You don't need any sort of external components except for an optional status LED.
You shouldn't need to do any sort of factory programming.

  • Ok,
Thanks to both of you, I will try it out!
