I asked Bump about his design changes for this theme and it seems as though a separately-scrollable left column won't be included with his theme optimizations/modifications. The left column was deliberately designed to be anchored to the middle column.
As per Bump I won't be adding this to the issues list. As per my post about keeping issue threads organized I am sinking this thread.
