Help!

I have not found the way to search old threads ... nor a score of other functions I used to be able to do.  Losing access to the old posts on the forum is a tremendous disadvantage.  I've searched and searched for online instructions, and have failed to find the right link.  I also noticed that my avatar is missing?  This isn't a really big issue, but if I can fix it I would like to.

  • Use Google.
    "insert search criteria" site:Parallax.forums.com
  • Avatars can be changed by clicking on your current avatar in the top left of the screen, then clicking on it again when your personal account page loads.
  • Thankyou

  • Works great for me. I tried:

    ActivityBot site:forums.parallax.com

and it brought up a huge list of posts relating to the ActivityBot.

    How?
  • Tapperman,

You put "forums" and "parallax" in the wrong order. It's "forums.parallax.com" not "parallax.forums.com"

That was my bad Phil. Thanks for correcting me.

  • Nothing I do seems to be able to access past material?

    I go to Google.com and enter "forums.parallax.com"
And I'm linked back to here ... no advanced search dialog.

    What am I doing wrong?

You need to enter the terms you want to search for, along with site:forums.parallax.com. This restricts the Google search to this forum.

Thank you Tapperman! I rest my case on needing "Advanced Search" reinstated.

You are not doing anything wrong.
One cardinal rule of the web if you want people to be able to find stuff is "never move resources to different URLs" or basically "don't break all the links of all the people who have linked to you on the web." That includes Googles search bot.
The forum upgrade exactly did that. Again.
I  guess Google's search bot will eventually find out where everything is. Provided the internal links of the forum work for the old stuff.
  • Tapperman,

Let's say you want to search for me, mindrobots, and limit it to the parallax forums

go to Google.com and in the google search box, type in:

    mindrobots site:forums.parallax.com

That's it, it's that simple! You put the word or words you want to search for and follow that by:

    site:forums.parallax.com

The site: keyword tells google search to limit the search to the forums.parallax.com website in this example.
  • Wow ... that is the best we can do?  That is not what I meant at all.  There used to be an advanced search feature (may have been google) ... who's dialog would allow you to restrict results just to a particular forum .. or user and then show those results.  I didn't use it much, since the old forum soft. had it's own internal advanced search dialog ... now, I kind of wish I used it all the time.

  • Unfortunately, that's what's available at this time. But given the old forum didn't have the greatest of search tools, Google by "site:forums.parallax.com" is your best bet.
I also miss the search by forum member.
