xanadu,
Well that did something. I now see the quote as spaced down and indented a bit. No style applied at all.
What else do I need to know to make a quote look like a quote?
.. and as a reality check, out in the Real World, Atmel have just expanded the categories on AVRfreaks - seems they grasped that having ARM threads landing at random was not helping anyone, and they now have a total of ~25 categories.
Yes, you can still scan by recent posts - there is no downside to more categories.
(but plenty of upsides)
Good grief it worked.
So to a make quote here one has to go to HTML school first and learn how to do this:
<blockquote class="UserQuote"><div class="QuoteAuthor"><a href="/profile/Heater." rel="nofollow">Heater.</a> said:</div><div class="QuoteText"><p>I would fix that now broken old style quoted block above, if I had the faintest clue how to. Any one got the hang of that yet?</p></div></blockquote>
Brilliant! Might as well not bother with the forum software at all. Just give me FTP access and I'll write my own HTML and up load it. It would be easier

From what I can see "<blockquote class="Quote">" and a <div> to end it.
4) As others have noted, relying on users to tag their messages is naive at best.
When the first VB forum was introduced, there was an option to add tags. I took advantage of this option but the tags were soon removed since they were seldomly used.
I agree with with Gordon, erco and others about a need for separate forums.
About the mixed rice problem. Of course the analogy doesn't really fit since this is digital rice. If there is a copy of the the earlier forum layout somewhere then the threads can be separated by finding the thread in the earlier forum and checking to see which forum it has been in. If these records exist, I'd think sorting the rice would be relatively easy.
Yeah "<blockquote class="Quote">" works great but I can't get out of it in the editor without "</div>" That doesn't work either... help... "<br/>" got me out of it. whew....
Interestingly if you put an iframe into a post it does not appear.
But go back and edit the post and there is the iframe displayed correctly in the edit box.
There should be an iframe here.

I've also seen attributes show in Preview/Edit, but not show in a post, but magically appear when that post is later quoted !!
I found Bump's post about why tags had been disabled.
Yes, we have decided to disable tags for the time being. We are considering other options to serve the same purpose as tagging, such as a categories option for posts/blogs/etc used as a quick search, but they were causing a lot of clutter as they were. People could freely tag anything and this caused some confusion and misdirection.
Another solution is in process; we apologize if the tagging feature's recent disappearance causes any inconvenience. If we find this to be too great of an inconvenience to our community we will reconsider our decision.
It's not mentioned here, but I thought one reason they were removed was because they weren't being used very often.
I would fix that now broken old style quoted block above, if I had the faintest clue how to. Any one got the hang of that yet?
Heater, don't you read my posts even when I quote you?
BTW, Is your button supposed to do anything? From the html I expected it to change to "Alert" or something. Does the button do what you expected?
These forums are going down the tubes quickly. Erco posts about missing Robotics forums and that's followed by 40 posts on how to make a quote look right.
I am getting too darned old to relearn this stuff. I am not complaining but it needs ti be more simplified. Any perspective new users are not going to find this useful at all. I showed a friend of mine that is getting into electronics and he could not figure out what to do and gave up.
Duane Degn,
Sorry, I seem to have missed your post with quoting instructions.
I just hit view page source and gleaned what I needed from there
No the button does not work. I put an onclick="allert(43)" on it but that is stripped out. Just as well or we would be running our own JS on the page!
Oddly the iframe works in the edit box when you edit a post with an iframe in it but the buttons do not render in the edit box.
NWCCTV is right. This post editing business is hopeless. Complex, broken, non-intuitive.
We will make a Robotics forum. It's not a problem - just give us till early next week after Independence Day holiday.
Ken Gracey
Hi Ken.
It is NOT only Robotics.
As I looked more on this new Forum most of this IS Ok.
BUT only BIG problem are as All old FORUMS is broken.
That give big problems to find what is what --- Very bad
And is that that give headache for most of us as we Can't find threads we participated with and was interested on.
So solution is ---- Restore all Forums to that so we find things in theirs places them ware placed before You guys Moved all to forum new program ware

Didn't think so.

I can see it in my preview...

Will it show in forum ? Maybe it is too large ?

Could you imagine what spammers would do with that?
A button here?
Cool we can put buttons in our posts!

I thought this was on the horizon.
This is great news.
Thanks Ken.
