New Forum Issue: Batch Notification Emails

This one will drive me bonkers. I'm getting emailed after every post on a thread that I'm following. I've never seen such idiotic forum software that doesn't have a setting for this. Why am I unable to switch between batch and instant emails? After two hours, I had 53 emails from this new forum.

I found some email settings buried under
    Notification Preferences
but you are right, not good defaults.
  • I can look into the emailing/notification options to make the defaults for new users less annoyingly. More importantly, were you able to locate the options and change them?
Did the changes workout for you?
  • It is extremely unintuitive to find the notification options and the notifications are a *real* immediate problem.  I apparently inhereted over 1,000 bookmarks and the first page of my inbox filled up with emails in a couple of hours.  Even with jmg's hint it took about 20 minutes to find them (for example, it's very un-obvious taht you have to click your own username to get to profile, then edit, then GAAAH I don't even remember exactly what I did now but eventually I found them.  I actually configured Yahoo (another PITA as it required switching to their new and unimproved infinitely-autoloading interface to get to the settings) to filter forum emails to a new folder.  Given how the old forum acted email notifications should be COMPLETELY OFF by default for imported users until we learn how to set this thing up.

I don't remember what the default notif. settings were, but one of the first things I did when I noticed the new forum was change them all on. Usually, I don't get a lot of email and I like to stay connected, so it works well for me. This is the only forum software I've ever seen that sends repeated emails, one for every new post, even though I haven't been back to the forums yet. Bad bad bad. I want email notifications when someone posts, but I don't need a new email for every post since the last time I visited.
As soon as I saw the 50 new emails, I turned off all notifications. To directly answer your question, yes, the changes did work out for me.
  • I, too, have turned off all notifications. I get enough junk email as it is, without having to be informed when someone has responded to one of my posts. I can discover that on my own, thanks.

  • Not bright to have made/left that as the default notification.

However, I found it only moderately difficult to find.
Only pain was that when you click on your username, there is a Notifications tab on the left, which does not do what you thing it should. Clicking on right-side Edit Profile resolves it, though its rather odd why it isn't in the Notifications tab.
