Forum Issue: Appears to be an endless loop in script

I am using WinXP SP3 with IE8.  Page loading always hangs until I get a dialog box warning from IE, asking if I want to stop running the script.  Upon answering yes, the script stops running and the page finishes with loading.

  • Smart-@$$ response: stop using IE.

I've started tagging my forum issue threads with "forum-issue". Should help the mods fix these faster. Quick, you only have 50 minutes left to edit the post!

  • @xanaduI can't tell if you're just trying to report your findings, or trying to report a bug. I work at UP - big, massive, old company that doesn't like to upgrade and insists on keeping the backwards compatibility for way too long. And yet, even Union Pacific Railroad has given up support for IE6.
I'd have to imagine any "bugs" with the layout in IE6 will be quickly ignored. I imagine even IE8 is getting quickly forgotten.

I use IE6 for outdated web GUI hardware, in a vm. There is no end in sight for it and it's easy enough to run. Kinda fun to play with lol, I couldn't resist!

Bruce have you considered FireFox or Chrome? Older versions of IE are great for different reasons but the demanding sites could be offloaded to another browser.
  • Bruce,
IE8 has serious issues with Jquerry and other "modern" browser technologies. We have applications at work with scripts that run for 10s of seconds (or hang) on IE8 and fractions of a second under FireFox or Chrome (or sometimes even IE10 or 11). There's no way to fix IE8 to run with modern technologies and it's unreasonable to dumb down a site to work with IE8 - both from a work effort and user experience standpoint.
You may want to try a more modern browser. Firefox or Chrome (I suggest adding AdBlocker Plus and Ghsotery at a minimum)  a really a pleasure to work with and view. Yes, they are different and it does require a change, a bit of time to adjust and some willingness to accept differences on your part. Even IE11 can be usable if one insists on running Internet Explorer.

    xanadu,
That screen shot shows that IE6 displays these pages in a much nicer way than what I am seeing here.
How do I install IE6 on Linux now...

You don't.  Microsoft won't support it.

    Loopy,
You should know me by now, it was a rhetorical question.
More seriously who cares about MS support?  For example if it runs under wine on Linux we are in business :)
