New Forum Issue: Sub-categories

I've noticed two complaints so far (there may be others - I haven't looked).
  • P1-Verilog
  • Robotics
Both have gone missing with, seemingly, no explanation. Can they be retrieved, with all threads previously categorized being re-categorized? Probably not. Should they be re-created and started new?

Just guessing, but they probably haven't been transferred yet.
  • Let's hope so. But then, why are the old Robotics threads appearing in Projects?
Also missing are the quad sub-categories (threads now all thrown into Projects). Not THAT I find particularly odd.
  • The P1 Verilog stuff seems to be mixed in with the P1 threads now. :(

  • Under Projects there really needs to be a Robotics and Multirotor sections.

I have a different take on this. These are important products Parallax tries to sell. They should be top-level categories, possibly with subcategories of their own. Example: under robotics there's BOE-Bot and ActivityBot. These are cornerstones of the company, and they are now lost in a Miscellaneous category.
I don't believe newcomers to the forum will be willing to slog through a pile of irrelevant posts for their research.
I also didn't find any discussions of rings, bracelets, and earrings under the Accessories section, and with that category name, I expected to. Parallax doesn't use the term "Accessories" on their home page, so I figured they were going to start selling and supporting jewelry.

I'm guessing that was the old "SENSOR" catagory ?

    Hello Gordon,

I like your suggestion better!  Robotics as a main category with sub's for Boe-BOT, Activity BOT, Scribbler, Eddie/MadeUSA/ARLO, etc.

Sensor plus wireless. Odd combination and category name.

I thought the old forum was fine and the new one would be identical, just with restored functionality. This one is so different in looks and useability that it barely feels like the same forum. I hope Gordon's right that all will be well after some tweaking, but it better happen fast. People are surprisingly candid about their feelings here and it's not looking good.

Let me first say that I DETEST the new quoting. I only wanted to quote you, not me and you, and only a portion of it. I think the resulting quote will show something different than what I intended.
On edit: Yup, I was right. Somehow Erco's quote was attributed to poor Publison. I could find no way to avoid the nested quoting. Ack!

Anyway, my main concerns are not easily tweaked. Unless the threads were moved with metadata intact, I don't see how they can now be re-moved into more refined categories. They'll either need to move threads back over, properly this time, or use a script to separate out threads based on meta. I am not hopefully they will do either.
  • Classifieds (For Sale) and Archives are also missing.

Quoting certainly has many quirks. and is looking like Alpha code, but I can get somewhat predictable outcomes by editing the HTML using show source.
Rules I use:* Add comments first, then edit quotes. (avoids being sucked into the quote body)* Edit HTML to remove bonus/excessive blockquote chaff
  • Now that links back to the forum have been fixed, I think the lack of some sub forums is my biggest concern about the new forum.
Having a separate robotics forum is at the top of my latest forum wish list.

Good idea, and I think a copters (quad,
hex, whatever) or UAV category should go under Robotics as well.

Sorry about the previous post. My laptop shut down just as I clicked the Post button.

How about a "Peripherals" category with Sensors, Wireless, and other such items as sub-categories?
