Not sure if this one is going to make it, but what a great tribute it would be to his father:

And of course we all have seen the Audi commercial:

I wouldn't back it if it weren't being done by Adam, who I met about 12 years ago. Very gracious young man, and obviously proud of his father.

The similar documentary by Rod Roddenberry (Gene Roddenberry's son) had that "detatched" feel to it, that Adam says he's seeing to avoid. I think that's good, for one thing because the father-son relationship between the two was different. My father was very much like Roddenberry's personality, so I could empathize, but the approach to the subject matter was a bit disconcerting.

Looks like a good project to me. Though my only qualification is having read "I Am Spock."

I thought this photo was fantastic:

I'll probably chip enough to get updates.

I hadn't seen the commercial that was fantastic!! We are all going to miss him!!

The funding for this documentary should be a no brainier. I wonder why they are messing around with Kickstarter I would think a production company in LA would snatch this up.

There's an error in the ad - self driving car in the end should be Volvo :)

I think he already has a production company, or will form one. What he wouldn't have is money to develop it or distribution, and that's what Kickstarter provides. As Spock would say, there is logic in this. He raises the money on Kickstarter, and covers his negative costs. It also serves as the vehicle for distribution. He already has a guaranteed audience. For DVD, streaming, even theatrical release, he can now negotiate with any distributor on his terms, since he'll be in the black at that point.

I can well imagine Paramount/CBS Studios would want to distribute this, as they did the Trekkies documentaries. I also think Hollywood hasn't yet discovered this Kickstarter, or we'd be seeing much higher numbers. Given the people who profited over the years from the Trek franchise, and Nimoy's huge influence on its success, as homage they should be funding just as an act of donating to the cause.

Check the "Kung Fury" movie, it was also crowdfunded. It is quite funny, at least, first 5 minutes...
