The all new ZappBots Discussion Forums are now open.

The forums are to discuss things about Robotics, Electronics, Micro-Controllers, Single Board Computers, Classic Computers and More.
Including: Basic Stamp, Propeller, Raspberry Pi, Beagle Bone, Arduino and 3D Printing

Chris Savage has announced that the forums at his website Savage///Circuits will be closing on/or about May 31, 2015. He plans to keep the other parts of the Savage///Circuits website open, but will be revamping the site and moving it to a new web host. So, I decided to create a new set of discussion forums, so we will still have a place to talk, learn from each other and showcase our projects. Everyone is welcome to join.
If you haven't already, please consider checking out the ZappBots forums. There's a place for everyone. Starting June 1st the Savage///Circuits Forums will no longer be available. I really need to start working on the new (Savage///Circuits) site by then so I will need to redirect my domain to my new host soon. Because the Parallax forums are primarily a support forums I will move general chatter and tech talk to the ZappBots forums.

Please, give the new forums a try!!!

Post back to this thread if, you have any trouble registering or posting at the new forums.

Let me know what works and what doesn't.

If there is something you want added to the new forums, let me know and I will see what I can do.

If you like what you, see please ask your friends, to join us at our new home.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post!!!

Hm, why is there a minimum of 6 chars for the user name? I would prefer to register with my usual name (which is also my actual name)

Should be fixed, 3 char names should work now, please try again.
Thank you for visiting the ZappBots Forums!

FYI - I was blocked and looks like your IP is associated with phishing. It may never delist considering it is shared hosting. Some of your visitors may not be able to get to your site.

    Glad you like it.

Now here is a challenge for Erco!

If I create a PICAXE Powered Robot Forum, will you post about your Robots there?

Thank you for your feedback, I am not sure what I can do about it.

With some types of software you can manually override a block. I have 1 member who said he was able to do that.

    I am open for suggestions?

Frankly, that's a problem with a lot of free hosting services.
some don't screen their customers, and others allows 'invasive' ads.

Only way to get away from the problem is getting another hosting service.
    Personally, I use one.com

I guess it depends on what you want to do with the site. If there is a budget. The easiest thing to do is find out if you can get your own IP address where the site is now. The next thing is to check costs of not-so-shared hosting. Even with the smallest amount of resources the site would still be faster than shared hosting especially around the holidays.

Personally I'd go with a cloud service like Amazon AWS and a prebuilt and configured instance - https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/search/results/ref=dtl_navgno_search_box?page=1&searchTerms=phpbb

I'm not sure that is a good option for you, are you in Italy?

Yes, I have a tight budget for the forums. I checked and I cannot get my own IP address where the site is now.

    Thanks for the link.

I am located in the the USA.

The purpose of the site is to meet people with the same interests and share information & ideas with them.

If the site becomes popular, with an active user base, I will most likely move it to a new host.

So far installing phpBB version 3.1.4 my self and learning how it works at the current host has been a great learning experience.

Your forum servers are in Italy. The IP abuse listing and geography are easy to manage with a small amount of users it won't be a problem. It's great you installed it yourself. If you can keep the site portable, you can move your forum anywhere at anytime.

A big part of moving your site is having your own domain name. If you need to leave altervista they own your current URL. Domain names are cheap, private registration is a couple bucks but worth it if you're going to invest a lot of time into this.

It looks really nice, I love phpBB.

Can't get past the captcha, it's easy to read but it rejects my answer. And refresh just produces the same captcha.

If you registered at the ZappBots forums but never received your activation e-mail, our e-mail address might be blocked by your e-mail server or spam filter.

Please, send a PM to zappman here on the Parallax Forums, with the Name and E-mail address you registered with at the ZappBots forums, and I will try to activate your account.
