Can the EasyVR Recognize a dog bark?

Is there any way to make the EasyVR pick up on a dog bark and have it perform a task? If not, what would be a good alternative? I want to have my back door open and close when my dog barks. He has a very specific bark when he wants to go out or come back in. RFID had crossed my mind but the readers Parallax sells (both of which I own) have a very limited distance.

I think it would be interesting to see if the EasyVR can use a bark as an user assigned word.

It would probably be easiest to check with the EasyVR connected to a PC running the GUI program. The trick will be getting the dog to bark on cue. You may need to record the dog's bark and use the recording to train the EasyVR.

I'd give this about a 20% chance of working. I hope you let us know if it works or not.

If the EasyVR won's accept the bark as a word, you could try Phil's speech recognition software for the Propeller. I'm pretty sure I have a link to Phil's thread on the subject in my index but I'm not sure where it is in the index.

Well, The good thing is that he speaks on command. However, Like I said, his bark for wanting in and out are very specific. It will not be too difficult to record him. I will give that a try and then connect up the EasyVR to see what happens. I will keep you posted.

Put the mic by the back door, and record the exact out bark, and the exact in bark. and assign them as separate words. I think that might have a good chance of working, rather than hoping the "speal" barlk is close enough.

Great project, Andy! I can't wait to hear your results after testing. There are many other choices to try if Easy VR isn't up to it for some reason.

This is a great question, and has all sorts of interesting possiblities. Having your doggie dog secure to just the mutt you own is just one of several possiblities.

I suspect that you might need to DIY an audio FFT profile for your mutt and then use that same sampling ability to key into his identity. It isn't exactly voice recognition as you are not sorting out different words. But you are profiling his voice print to only him. If you need more than one option -- maybe arf arf can be seperated from a single arf, and so on.

This is what I was planning on doing. I found my EasyVR and have it set up. I just need to figure out a way to get the mic closer to my door without having too long of a wire and ending up with nothing but static.
