Propeller Powered Riot Games Display

Those of you who are fans of League of Legends will recognize the characters behind me: Annie and Tibbers; two of the more popular characters from the game.
We just finished setting up the display in the lobby or Riot's new HQ in Santa Monica (they haven't even moved in yet).
There is just one Propeller chip running the display (in the form of an EFX-TEK HC-8+ controller) that controls nearly 500 LEDs via off-the-shelf DMX bricks (most LEDs were ganged together -- we didn't have 500 individual channels). Since we didn't know how many total channels would be used I created an array of virtual outputs (embers and flames animations) inside the controller and then copied those channels directly into the DMX buffer. It was fun seeing the reaction of Riot employees that hadn't gone to the gaming conventions where the display has been shown in public. While talking with a group of guys I mentioned that I used the Propeller and one said he loved the chip, especially after getting the DC22 badge last summer. When I told him I was JonnyMac (my name is on the badges) he put his hands up to his head and did the "my head is exploding" gesticulation. We had a laugh and I was thrilled to find a person that didn't already know who I am be complimentary of the Propeller and the DC22 badge that we worked so hard to create.

Nice to know there is a beloved Propeller in there. Would love to see Riot put a video on their website of the grand opening with that display.
