Thanks, fellas. I had fun building this thing, and, 30 years later, "I/O-mapped memory" still gives me a grin! I always did have a taste for the wonky. (Off-topic example here.) Strange that I haven't gotten around to hacking with a Propeller (yet)!
Very nice design. Eproms were a great way to do things with a small number of chips. I used a 2716 with a bit of logic and a counter as the interface to replace Victor listers and teletypes on old instruments with centronics parallel or serial printers. Even managed to get both serial and parallel outputs at the same time with a slightly revised design.
Your 60Hz computer is the most wonderful thing I have seen for ages.
I'm almost tempted to start building one !
It brings to mind the time we were applying microprocessor control to some machine in the early 1980's, there was a huge mess of hydraulic pipes, spool valves and such controlling some part of the machine. That never did get replaced. It had been there since two generations of engineers before and nobody could figure out how it worked!
