What's really kind of interesting is the southern route (I-40) is 2320 miles and the northern route (I-80) is 2329 miles. Two wildly diverse routes until you get to the actual end point and only 9 miles difference across teh entire route. OK, maybe it's not that interesting.
I will probably be there. I was at the very first DARPA Grand Challenge 2004 near Barstow to see my alma mater Virginia Tech smoke and self-destruct at the starting line, and I was at the Urban Challenge in 2007 when Tech placed third, after Carnegie Mellon and Stanford. My CM & Stanford co-workers rather enjoyed that...
Dennis Hong was in charge back then, of Virginia Tech's RoMeLa (Robotics & Mechanics Laboratory). He has since transferred to UCLA (and somehow took RoMeLa with him) so I'm not sure what's left of team Victor Tango (Virginia Tech). Quite frankly I'm not sure if I should chide Dennis for bailing on Tech, or welcome him to LA and hit him up for a research grant!

I'm with Rick. Do both... and be nice. Someday erco ® might need some more employees! And don't forget, I am first in line for company chaplain and general flunkee!
As far as the DRC, maybe Rick and I should drive out and meet you for the fun.

Two days to drive here (or just one if you take turns sleep/drive nonstop) and the same back. Surely you guys can break away for 5-6 days of fun. The first 6-pack (of servos) is on erco!
How many Props & Stamps & PINGs and Lidar Lites would it take to make your own self-driving car to drive you guys out here while you rest up in the back seat? I bet Ken would put you guys up if you make a slight detour afterwards to Rocklin...

Love the robot!
Atlas ----> atlas-t ----> at last (Ouch!)
Hope that's not going into the Easter sermon.......
erco - tell me you are going. You are way too close to miss it! I would love to be there!
I just looked on the map, Pomona's only like a 4 hour drive for erco if the traffic is light!

It would be really fun though!

Both! Break ice with the "good old days", then suck up and score!

I'd need a REALLY good chaplain when I got home a week later!!!

Erco, you should enter your 99cent tower bot. Perhaps what the world needs is more affordable helper bots.
