If I didn't know better, I'd call the new Circuit Overlay Board a prototyping shield.

Oh @erco, you misunderstood completely. A Shield is something to plug onto a A..o without any soldering or knowledge.

prototyping shield is a oxymoron.

I always thought a shield was an adapter to get around the error in positioning the connectors on the Ardu..spit...ino.
