Xbee for Flight and Switches...

Im new to propellers and Ive been reading about the Xbee series, but I still cant figure out if its possible to just send de-bounced switch inputs to a pin on the TX xbee and have it appear at the RX xbee. I don't even need it to be clocked accurately.
I just need a way to activate a function on my tri-copter. Like LEDs, and a drop hook. Since mechanical systems are slow and simple, processors aren't even needed if the Xbee is this simple.
(and I mean parallel port-like operation, not serial)
