For those retro-nuts out there like me looking to transfer software from their Mac to an Apple IIe, I just confirmed the Parallax USB to Serial (https://www.parallax.com/product/28030) works great with ADTPro!

I have bought a few of these USB to Serial adapters on eBay. Even the ones with the FTDI chip in them. Total Smile.

The Parallax one (with a 9pin to 24pin adapter) worked like a champ.

Nothing really special about it. But, at $15 it's not a bad price at all.

Yeah Parallax! :-D

Interesting claim, given Parallax use FTDI chips in their USB adapters ?

By total Smile I mean the cheapo ones on eBay *should* work but they don't.

Often it's not just the USB controller chip, but the implementation and driver circuit. Not to mention that some older systems require all the pins to be active on the DB-9 end, while some cheaper adapters only handle RX/TX and maybe RTS/CTS. I used several systems in the early 90s that required every line on the DB-9 including the RI (ring indicator). Difficult to find that line supported anymore.

How would I use this with my iiGS? I've never tried it before... Does it just show up as an AppleTalk network?

I'm not sure about the IIGS. I have a IIGS but I have never tried ADT Pro with it.

On the note of Apple 2, does anyone here have any experience with the Imagewriter ii? I have one and just got it hooked up today. I was testing with it and on a CR it wouldn't go to the left of the page, but rather would go about half the page's length and eventually slam itself into the case. I ran the self test that runs the carriage back and forth (Power+Line Feed) and it seems to slowly correct the problem, but once I stop the test it starts inching to the right again. Any ideas?

That's a serial printer right? Is the baud rate correct on both ends?

Yeah, the text is legible, although faint as the ink is old. The carriage is just doesn't move far enough to the left it seems.
