Quartus II crashing while idle on Kubuntu

I've just installed Quartus II and have had a few occurrences of the following crash already. I can use it without a hitch, not once has it crashed while I've been fiddling, but it seems like when I leave it for a few minutes doing nothing it will crash.
This is by no means consistent. I've also left it for a hour or two without any problems.

I also have Quartus II 14.1 64 bit on a Win 8/1 machine and it works without a hitch.
Sorry I can't help you there, Quartus is a temperamental beast.
Cheers

Perhaps whilst idle quartus is calling back to Altera.
I now have Quartus II 64 Bit Version 14.0.0 open and idling on Debian Wheezy to see what happens.
Basically we are lucky it works at all on these machine as it is built for Red Hat.
In general I would stay away from any kind of Ubuntu, they just take Debian and break it in interesting ways. No end of problems.
I have been using KDE Plasma Desktop on Debian for years now. I have used KDE on every distro I have used since about 1998.
KDE is not default on Debian but that is not a worry. What I always do is install a minimal "headless" Debian first, no desktop no X Windows. When that is up and running I install kde-plasma-desktop.
The nvidia driver install may be a bit more manual that you are used to but it's very easy on Debian now a days. I have a blog entry summarizing the few commands needed, sadly that blog is down at the moment for some odd reason, I'll see what I can do to get it back up for you.
That does leave the slight pain that sometimes a Debian upgrade will change the kernel version and nvidea will stop working. Grrr... But only one simple command is required to get it rebuilt against the new kernel and running again. Also in my blog post.
The instructions for installing nvidia on Debian are here.https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers
Really it's harder to read than to do. If you have Debian Wheezy and a recent graphics card it's only 5 or 6 commands. It's not like you have to do it more than once.
By the way, my Quartus has been open ever since my previous post no sign of trouble.
