Quickstart/Wiznet/HID Hack

Just wondering if anyone has ever tried to connect the Quickstart, WizNet and a Human Interface Device together or if it is even possible. I have some experiments that require the use of all 3 together but I do not want to proceed if I will be wasting my time.

HID is kind of a generic term. Do you mean USB HID?

They can be used together as long as there are no IO pins needed by both the HID and Wiznet board. The product sheets for each should show the pin usage so you can determine if you will have issues between the add-ons.

It wasn't pretty, but I was able to look this up on my phone. The conflicts you will have on the HIB board (Parallax#40003) if also used alongside the Wiznet board (Parallax#40002) are as follows:
    P8-9 IR LED and modulator
    P10-11 Audio
    P12-15 Composite video
    P24-25 Mouse
    P26 Keyboard data line

Those are the pins used by the Wiznet board. Not sure if any of the HIB circuitry on these shared pins would affect the functionality of the Wiznet but probably. You could modify how you stack the boards so that the HIB pins don't actually connect to the Quickstart. Put the Wiznet on top of the QS and put the HIB underneath. It would require soldering to reorient the header on the HIB.

What all do you require from the HIB? No reason you can't just run wires from the extra header location on the QS to the needed circuits on the HIB. This would also mean you could have those circuits on whatever pins you desire.
This discussion is also presenting another reason why Peters IOT5500/CPU module is valuable. Since that propeller is doing the Wiznet work, you would have plenty of IO on your main Propeller.
