A most impressive aircraft, graceful maneuvering and excellent piloting. Posted under the Multi rotor forum because hey, it's got two rotors...

What a gorgeous airplane and graceful scale slow flight. Is it just so lightweight that it can fly that slow?

Edit: I guess so, 2.1M long, 2M span, 9 servos and yet just 285g!

The fuselage is inflatable, probably filled with helium.

    Really cool. Thanks for sharing.
I*m working on a DC3 Douglas scale model, but that one is going to have a start weight at about 5-6000g. Maybe I need some Helium too....

If someone calculates the volume of the body and the weight of air of that volume vs. what helium of that volume would weigh then I'm not so sure about the helium. I saw the claims in the youtube comments, but those were all from viewers. Helium isn't some magical antigravity stuff.

I estimate it would give a couple ounces of lift. No reason not to use helium, whatever the amount of lift it provides, it would be helpful.

Hydrogen gives 9% more lift than helium but I can tell you from personal experience, there is at least one minor drawback. :)

More amazing indoor airplanes, 3-gram microfilm types. These fascinated me as a kid. I built lots of outdoor rubber band models and towline gliders, but microfilm was too fragile, I tried!

But just one "rotor" here, sorry for the hijack. :)

So the challenge is how to build a control system for those penny planes so that you don't have to poke at them with a stick to keep them on course.

Nice animated model airport. Jump to 3:00. And keep watching. All the vehicles are little self-contained self-recharging robots. Pretty cool stuff. Operates 10 hours a day continuously in the Hamburg museum.

I would LOVE to work there and get to analyze and control the logistics of everything.
