Ran across this article on CNN today; I'd never heard of such a thing...

So long, transistor: How the 'memristor' could revolutionize electronics

The idea of the memristor has been around since the early 1970's. Do try to keep up :)

Only recently have people like HP have claimed to have made memrsitors and that they may be in production "real soon". Some claim their device is not a memristor, some claim that it is. I have no idea.

Seems like I have heard that hybrid term memristor before. Maybe I should rush out and trademark the new blackened, half-height component I invented by accident last night. I call it the expLED.

    I don't understand it.

Seems that memristance, M, is defined as M = dΦ / dq. In the manner that resistance, R, is defined as R = dV / dI
Or rate of change of magnetic flux with charge as opposed to rate of change of voltage with current.

It's not clear to me how that leads to any kind of memory device. Anymore than a resistor, capacitor or inductor are. Well, except that a capacitor does store charge and can be used as a memory. An inductor also stores magnetic field and will make a memory when built with super conductors.

    The Wiki article is interesting...

    See the 'Applications' section.
Smaller than transistors, non-volatile, faster access than flash...
