Forum Search Syntax

Hello,

Sorry if the answer to this question is right in front of my nose, but I haven't found it yet. I've searched the FAQs for help on this, but I've not found anything.

What I'd like to do is put in a list of words that I want to seach by, where every word appears. I don't care what order they appear in, or if there are other words mixed in. But I do not want every post that has just one of the words.

Is there a way to use Boolean or +/- symbols to limit my search? I've tried using AND between terms, and the "+" sign. However, no matter what I try it appears the the words in the search field are logically OR-ed. I've tried using the minus "-" sign and that seems to do the opposite of what I want.

Is there a document somewhere that details this?

Robert

    Robert,

You may want to try this search method through Google:

I have a link to Rich's search at the top of my index.

If you use ctr+F to search for a word in my index (see my signature), you might also find a link to what you're looking for.

Of course you can also just ask in the forum. The Parallax forum seems much more tolerant to what may seem like basic questions than other forums I've used. Of course it's always polite to attempt to find the answer yourself but if you can not find the answer yourself, free to ask here.

As soon as I posted "related posts" showed me some stuff about using Google that I hadn't found earlier. Is there any way hints like this could be added to the forum FAQs?

    Thanks.

    Robert,

Just remember the forum search does not respond to three letter searches, such as "GPS". You could use a wil card search such as "GPS*", but that does not work as well as the search in post#2.

    BTW. Welcome to the forums!

    Jim
