Propeller Tool session survival

Usually my PC is left running - or sleeping - so then this is not a problem, but-
After starting my PC and opening up the Propeller Tool to continue work, I each time have to dig down into directories to find the area where my work is, then open up the objects/tags I worked on when I left it last time. The only 'shortcut' there I have found is to open the top level object, hit compile, and then pick the child objects I need from the Object view window.
Surely there must be a way to preserve the session from last time, so that when I start the Tool I can directly be back into the environment I was? I cannot find any such options anywhere.

Erlend my Propeller tool opens to the last directory I was in when I left and I have to click on the file I want that is on

the left side of the screen to open it. PropellerIDE tool opens automatically with the last file you were working on.

Strange, the Propeller Tool installation I have notoriously opens at some really irrelevant location each time the PC has been off.

Do I read between your lines that I should go and have look at PropellerIDE instead? Is it a better IDE?

I use PropellerIDE and I like the feature that whatever program you have open when you shut the IDE down it will start next time with that program already open.

As far as which tool to use I have both and sometimes I use both of them.

    PropellerIDE 0.2 on Debian.

Opens with a single tab containing whatever file was in the tab you were viewing when you last closed it.
Any other tabs that were open when closing get forgotten.

That's OK if the visible tab on close was the top level object. Then the sub-objects are listed in the pane on the right side.

If the visible tab on close was not the top object then one has to manually find and open it.

This is not normally a problem as your top level file is usually in the "recent files" list on the file menu.

I am using PropellerIDE 0.19 in Windows and it has the same thing. It will open with whatever program you have open when you shut it down,

so if it is not the top level file program you will still have to hunt down whatever program you are looking to use.

No such luck. I downloaded PropellerIDE for Windows, opened up some of my Spin files, did a few changes, saved, then exit. Started up PropellerIDE again, now it opened up empty, with only a blank tab 'Untitled' with a line number 1. Directory location were back at PropellerIDE's default area, my working directory was forgotten.
Why is there no Edit>Preferences>Working directory?
    Any ideas?

Also you may want to build (the hammer on the menu bar) before you try to save your program.

Edit: My library is set to C:/ProgramFiles/PropellerIDE/spin/

    It even forgets Edit>Preferences>Library.
Build does not help. I need to mobilize patience...

You will get it figured out. I am not an expert using PropellerIDE so maybe someone with some more knowledge will step in here.

On my laptop the Propeller Tool (V 1.3) opens with the last folder I was working on as per screen1. If I use File>>Open From.. I get a list of recently accessed folders as per screen 2. Do you get the same?

Both the P-Tool and the P-IDE are starting blank-faced.

I did have a problem when I first downloaded Propeller Tool V 1.3 and installed it, but don't recall the exact details. I then Uninstalled both V 1.3 and the older version, deleted the Parallax folder, and then downloaded and installed V 1.3. Worked fine after that with all the settings left at default.

It opens at PropellerIDE default directory. So, yes I could move all my files there. But that does feel kind of nineties...

My Propeller Tool doesn't even open at its default directory (as installed), but instead opens to the last HDD in the file-viewer, in my instance G:
I guess I have two options; re-install, and never put files a place of my own chosing, but stick to default - or - kep the PC always powered up, never shut down.

I have all of my spin files in a directory called "spincode". I then using the open icon navigate to it and open a program.

My Propeller tool is not real happy if you delete the last Spin file opened or it is on a removable drive that is not there anymore.

But I use the same folder "spincode" for both the Propeller tool and PropellerIDE. I wonder if you are able to navigate to your Spin

programs you want using the open icon?

Well, it just seems easier for me to leave all the Propeller Tool directories and files alone at their default locations, as well as leaving all the default program settings alone unless I needed to change them. The only changes I have made are to the com port and adding a copy of any objects I write or modify to the Library folder.
All the programs I write go in a sub folder in my "Propeller Projects" folder, and objects I write or modify go into an "Objects" sub folder before being copied to the Library folder. Combined with a "Shortcuts" folder on my desktop it helps keep everything organized, easy to access, and simple to back up.

I learned when I first started using the Propeller to do just as kwinn describes. My "spincode" folder is a sub folder of desktop/stuff/parallax/ . I have BS2 and

Propeller things in the parallax folder and I never put programs in the default programs and examples locations. I am wondering if Erlend can navigate to

    Spin programs?

Yes, everything works fine, but it is just such a dread to dig down into the correct file location each time.
Here's more: with PropellerIDE, I did an Edit>Preferences>Appearance= 'Classic' in order to get the classic font and thereby restore formatting. It works, but after Exit and restart it is forgotten. This all looks like there is (supposed to be) some cfg file of some sort somewhere that doesn't work as it should, doesn't it?

Something is not right. PropellerIDE on my Windows and Raspberry Pi machines operate as I described before. Some smart person here probably knows

what to do. If your not getting the same program that was open when you exit the program when restarting I do not have a clue.

Edit: I posted a picture of my setup you may have to zoom in to see it.

Not that this will figure anything out but I wonder which program (Proptool or PropIDE) starts when you click on a Spin program directly in Windows.

Right now my Default Programs is set to PropellerIDE. You might take a look in Default Programs / Associate a file type or protocol to see what Spin is set to.

Spin files starts the Propeller Tool - I am still only trying out the alternative PropellerIDE, so I have not changed the file type association.
    Btw, I am on Win7.
