I need video camera advice

I have a propeller gadget that connects to a GUI on the Mac. I will be recording the screen and audio voiceover tutorials and demos with ScreenFlow. I want to also record video of my gadget from a tripod aiming down at my desk. This way I can edit back and forth to show how the device is interacting with the GUI. This will be an ongoing process, possibly for years to come adding tutorials, demos, etc. So I want a video cam that is stationary. I don't think I want to try to simultaneously record the screen with audio AND the video cam at the same time, as there could be some other CPU beasts running and this will be too much to handle. So I am looking for a method to put a video cam on a tripod that can be stationary, and have some other recording device on the desk with either A. an SD card or B. Firewire/USB to upload the video to the Mac to sync up with the other screen capture footage. If the SD card is built in the camera, then surely the camera is going to get moved some each time, and I don't want to fuss with lining it up after each transfer. Any ideas on a method to do this? How about GoPro with hand held remote and USB link?

    Have you considered a webcam?

The webcam would require recording to the Mac, but I will not be able to capture webcam video plus the other CPU intensive apps too.

I looked into this quite a long time ago so I may be recalling incorrectly, I thought that there was software that allowed you to switch between screen capture and webcam in real time.
