Backlash on 6-15V Gear Motor (#28819)

Hello, I'm interested in the 6-15V Gear Motor with Encoder (#28819) for a robot project, and I would like information on the amount of backlash at the gearbox output shaft. The price is excellent given the capability, better than the Pololu 37D motors. Hopefully the backlash is moderate.

    The ones I have along with the bracket and wheel kit (#570-00080) has backlash that allows me to push the bot back and forth gently for just a little over 1/16 inch. The wheels have a 4 7/8 diameter.

    Thank you for that data point. It works out to be 1.47deg, which is excellent considering the price and spur gearbox. Does Parallax have an official measurement?

    I have both the Parallax motors and Pololu's 70:1 37D motors and the gearbox quality seem comparable. Pololu has a lot more choices in gear ratios and I think Pololu's motors have a slightly higher quality feel and look to them than the Parallax motor but the differences are so slight I'd suggest going with the Parallax motor if the gear ratio worked for your purpose.

    The differences in the two motors are not in the gearbox. Pololu's gearbox doesn't appear any better than Parallax's gearbox (both are good IMO).

    BTW, Pololu as great Black Friday sales. Make sure and check them out next November.
