Rev 1 Elev-8 PLANNED upgrade to Ardru Pilot - build log
I attribute the Elev-8 as my gateway into multirotors - now I have built 4 more of various sizes and 2 helicopters as well as upgrade my RC gear. Thank again Parallax for introducing me to another exciting hobby!
When I first built my first generation Elev-8 (HoverFly Sport), I added FPV - was ok however needs upgrades/tweaks. Also I am interested in exploring more automatous experiments. I select the HKPilot given the combo, and that it was in stock.. Recommend moving up to the more featured PixHawk. I will most likely be building more models, so next time. For me the build process is more exciting/fun than after; must be while I spend more time building than flying? The ArduPilot project is very exciting and has a lot of support. I have also been considering some of the new tweaks from the ELEV-8 2, perhaps getting some parts to retro this one.
Goals for this effort:
- Adru Pilot with an HKPilot Mega
- GPS / external compass
- Ground tracking Sonar
- Cleaner power for FPV (regulated and filtered)
- Upgraded FPV aerial
- Stabilize camera (reduce vibration)
- Flash motor controllers to BLHeli firmware (connector to upgrade/configure)
- Minim On Screen Display
- Telemetry radio
- Improve hardware layout and cable management
- Upgraded RC radio RX
Prior efforts included:
- Motor upgrade
- Base plates replacement and add-on an 'outlined' plate for more strength
- PWM controlled LED switch
Some of the work stated has already been started. I will be posting more pictures and details over 3 more posts.
