Language Wars (redux): If programming languages were countries.......

OK, based on some recent threads, I thought we'd all enjoy some of the fun in this Quora discussion:

"If programming languages were countries, which country would each language represent?"

http://www.quora.com/If-programming-languages-were-countries-which-country-would-each-language-represent

These are just a few examples:
"Javascript: Italy. Massively influential and loved by everyone, but breaks down easily."

"Java: The U.S. - Rarely seems to acknowledge the existence of other programming languages. Bulky in every sense of the word.
Full of libraries that nobody seems to use and problems that everyone seems to know but always seem to be pushed out of the limelight."

"Cobol: Russia. Once very powerful and written with managers in mind; but has ended up losing out. "

"Forth: Australia. Everything's the wrong way round in the antipodes."

No offense intended to any nations, ethnic backgrounds, countries of origin, current countries of residence, programmers, programming languages or code based orientations.

C++: England. Sucked up ideas and influences from everywhere and everyone and is now a complete mess that nobody can ever hope to learn properly. (Language wise at least)

Pascal: France. Need I say why? Fussy and opinionated about language, frozen in time, for no useful reason.

Ada: I don't know. Is there a place worse than France ?

Python: South Africa. White space is very important. (Ouch, am I allowed to make such a bad joke?)

    ...and of course,

"JavaScript would not be a country it would be an institution for the clinically insane, wandering around the grounds, shouting at the traffic"

(I'll probably regret starting this thread.......)

    This is an inappropriate thread.

Inevitably, someone will cause offense with their post (if they haven't already).

This thread is being locked, and I'd like to remind all users that "negative discussion" does extend to ridiculing or insulting entire countries. Please observe the guidelines when considering a thread topic.
