Now here's a funky WW2 vintage vehicle that might appeal to many, especially Tommy & Amanda: https://autos.yahoo.com/news/hk-101-strange-yet-functional-vehicle-world-war-143045312.html

I know Amanda likes treaded vehicles, and Tommy favors a steerable "rudder" wheel on his robots instead of casters. Think of that front motorcycle wheel as a front caster, my friend.

Food for thought on robot chasses. IMO this is right up there with the GDSF: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6u4ptksD1s

Several interesting "related videos" pop up at the end of that GSDF video. This ZIL twin screw drive vehicle is fairly dramatic, if not eco-friendly, carving giant ruts and knocking down trees in the rainforests. I have no photographic proof, but I got an amazing ride on a prototype amphibious vehicle much like that when I worked for the Army Corps of Engineers circa 1981. We were doing hydrographic survey in the marshes of Charleston SC and that thing could go anywhere (except a paved road, ironically).

One of Germany's oddball creations. The SdKfz 2, better known as the Kleines Kettenkraftrad HK 101 or Kettenkrad for short. Oddball, but it worked quite well.
I could never figure out what they needed the front wheel for.(?)

I was wondering the same thing. The article mentioned the front wheel was removed when there was a lot of mud.

I have to say, this one is a bit tempting.

I have learned "because the guys on the forum said to" doesn't count as a good reason for doing something with my wife. So I'll have to make it seem like it was my idea all along.

If I were to use "it would look cool" or a variety of other seemingly unimpressive reasons I'll be fine. I'm not sure if there's any other reason for building a robot which wouldn't fly with my wife.

I'm guessing that the front wheel adds some directional stability to the tank treads which need to be synchronized for straight line travel at high speed on a road...

Wouldn't really call that a motorcycle tank when the driver is exposed for all the world to shoot at. No protective armor for the most critical component so one shot and it's out of action.

I think #3 is all about the Altitude! :)

I know the pilot in the video, Billy Zang. I have seen the UH WIG in person at one of our HoverRallies.
