Our robotics crew from Sacramento City College, Electronics student association has been coming along very well over the winter break putting the Praying Mantis together!

As of now, the Mantis has all four legs attached to its chassis, so all 12 servos are mounted. After testing each servo, some might need to be swapped out. We're learning about how inconsistent servos can be, once in use. It is not sitting on its balance ball right now, but rather just a box until all legs are hooked up to the propeller board and operational. The bot also has an ultrasonic Ping))) in front, as well as a laser range finder, but none of these distance sensors are being coded in... yet.

The newest addition to the Mantis is its head. Two additional servos spin a worm gear that's mounted on top of the chassis that will raise and lower an actuator piece up and down. At the end of the actuator is another servo that spins around a Go-pro Camera.

Our next few goals will be too get the Mantis-Bot off its box and able to hold itself up; walking is going to be another complicated task, so just baby steps for now! Check out the attached pictures of our progress. We hope to get some videos soon too.

From the Thanks for checking out our work! We always appreciate the feedback! Your guys's projects are amazing! Keep building friends!
