Perhaps some worthy competition for Nikos' "Artist" robot? :) Nicely done.

Amazingly accurate reckoning on sand! The drawings are really tight and show little error. Thanks for posting pal!

Edit: Just read the article where it said," The robot keeps itself from veering into a watery death by tracking its distance by laser to four poles that are stuck into the sand." That explains some things. I thought it was achieving this accuracy using odometry alone!

    Nice.

Same could work with simpler robot in wheat fields, not scratching anything, just waltzing it down. Not aliens, robots did it!

    Enjoy!

There are some pretty good artists that come out around low tide in Encinitas CA. Some of them use their body and a small rake to create some interesting designs.

This is our regular spot on a good day...

I had thought about building a robot that used a stake in the center of the circle tethered to a retractable wheel with an encoder and no GPS, but I'd have to find a different beach out of respect for the manual rake guys. We came up with some great concepts.

Might as well find treasure while you're drawing on the beach. Another great Gareth bot!

That metal detecting bot is really cool. I did notice the metal was pretty close tot he surface, which is understandable. Wonder how hard it would be to make a "full power" metal detector one that could actually be used on the beach like the hand held ones?

I said it before and I'll say it again: I'd rather see a bot sweeping the beach than Grandpa strutting in his Speedo with his metal detector.
