Propeller Project Board on sale for $8.99 !

Because of a design flaw that Ken described here:

http://www.parallax.com/news/2014-12-15/small-design-flaw-propeller-project-board-revision-c-our-mistake-your-opportunity

They put these on sale for $8.99:

http://www.parallax.com/product/32810

That won't stop me from buying a few. :) The flaw is pretty trivial and can be worked around easily.

Looks like they sold 130 yesterday. Won't last long. Ken says new cards will not be available until February or March.

Yeah, earlier today there were 172 (after I bought 3). Looks like they might be gone today or tomorrow.

    It's down to 109 now!.

I just ordered two - I screwed up the shipping but called the Sales dept to get it changed to USPS 1st class.

If you click the "Continue to next step" too quickly after selecting the shipping method, you can get the wrong shipping cost. (A little busy icon shows up when you select the shipping option)

It's a good thing they dropped the free shipping over $50. I would have ordered four more! :)

    Down to 109.

Sounds like you could just solder a short wire to that GND pin row to correct the problem.

    Down to 91 left!

I bought a couple of these boards yesterday morning at the regular price, today their is a notice about a defect. I read the description of the defect, which says it is the row of nine on the bottom right side. Now, I do not have the boards yet, but from the picture in the documentation, it looks there is a row of ten, I am not sure which row is the affected one.

The picture of the board is a Rev B board (look at the back of the board), the Rev C board may have 9 at that location.

I think it's the 10 pins on the right edge. I left a Twitter in the Parallax page to Ken to confirm the pins.

Yup. That 10 pins, not 9.

    Ken responded:

"Open the picture at the top of the page and you'll see a graphic showing the affected pins. And, as you noted, there are ten (10) and not nine (9) as I mentioned above. These are the aligned along the lower right side of the PCB.

I just bought 5 and a bunch of ADC chips that are impossible to get in Kaohsiung.
I just wish I could buy a few Propeller 2 boards, but I am patient. I still can't wait to run Forth on them.

It seems to me that one could just run a jumper from the ground below Vin to the 9 and have 8 available if one needs them. But the truth is that I need to review the board in detail.

    FYI

To prove to myself that I wasn't losing it, I tried to determine why the wrong shipping method was used in my order.

Since I felt sure that I selected the USPS option , I went back through the ordering process to see what happened and discovered that
if you click the "Continue to next step" button before the "Please wait" process completes, you can end up with the wrong shipping method for the order...

I was too hasty it seems!

Kristina, the sales rep, corrected the order for me though.

When I saw the sale I ordered 8 right away and right away wished that I had ordered more! Now I'm starting to think I ordered to many!! I will promise that none of the boards I ordered will end up on ebay!

Serious bummer!!! I am in the middle of a project that will be using the project board and could have used 50 of them.

This error justifies a discount, but 75% off?!?!?! Cool deal for those who got them!

When I looked there were 18, I put in an order for 5. Then it showed 3 available and I accidentally added them to my box... I quick tried to delete just 3 but it dumped all of them. I kind of freaked when I looked and it said 1 was left. I refreshed and it showed 8 left... I then put in my 5 orders and quickly paid for it. Went back and there was none showing...

So HOPEFULLY I ordered 5 of the last few...

I have a couple projects I could use these with... (POV and CAN... )

Thanks for the opportunity! I probably wouldn't have gotten 5 otherwise.

To all that got in on the blow out.

Another gotcha appeared in the latest Product Description dated 12/16/2014:

    http://www.parallax.com/sites/default/files/downloads/32810-Propeller-Project-Board-USB-Guide-v3.1.pdf

REV C NOTE: Due to an error, the pins labeled GND in the 9-pin bank are not connected to each other,
nor are they connected to the ground plane. Use the GND pin banks along the lower edge of the board.

The 9-pin bank is actually a 10-pin bank, as Ken verified.
Open the picture at the top of the page and you'll see a graphic showing the affected pins. And, as you noted, there are ten (10) and not nine (9) as I mentioned above. These are the aligned along the lower right side of the PCB.

    Ken Gracey

Best just to use the 11-pin ground buss on the bottom, (under the VIN).

Also note that the board on page 12 of Product Description:

    http://www.parallax.com/sites/default/files/downloads/32810-Propeller-Project-Board-USB-Guide-v3.1.pdf

is the Rev A version The Bridge and Ground pin count has changed on newer revisions.

Thanks for the heads-up. I assumed they were connected to each other at least...
