With the fourth of four circuit boards all soldered up, the El Cheapo extruder is now complete. Additionally, as stated elsewhere, the Propeller CNC/3D Printer controller has been ready for quite some time. I also now have a prototype of my linear actuator design in good enough shape to test. With about another hours worth of cabling, I should be able to test all aspects of the controller and the extruder :)

At this point... El Cheapo is a very cool project and it should become very interesting.

For all of you 3D printer fans, I am attaching several photos of the extruder, and below is a list of the extruder's features.

Hinged fan assembly with magnetic catch - New Concept

Thermistor oven extending from nozzle - New Concept

New generation MK8 filament drive gear

Applied Motion high torque stepper motor

Bronze bearing for pivot point of tensioning lever

Radial ball bearing for feed idler

Dedicated circuit board for all wires going to the extruder

Dedicated terminal block provided on the circuit board for the easy removal of the hot end or thermistor

Dedicated terminal block provided on the circuit board for attaching or detaching the voltage divider

Provisions for securing all cabling at the rear of the motor

Feeder tube has a removable 1/8 NPT thread for attaching a push to connect fitting for Teflon tubing. I am not sure how this long feeder tube will work out, it may act as a substantial lever, putting a lot of pressure on the carriage assembly of the actuator.

35MM nozzle orifice

P.S. Where did all the post formatting tools go?
