Lost menus and image upload

Am I the only one who lost the formatting controls and the ability to upload images? At first I thought this was something to do with the recent forum hiccup.

I can enter formatting commands manually in the text, but there are no longer any formatting tools for things like font, code, images, quotes and links. I've tried all three editor options under "settings".

I can move existing images from my collection of previously uploaded attachments, but new uploads (say a small gif) comes up as an empty box in the attachment manager, and as an empty link on the page.

Do I need to reset something, or is this just the way it is?

I can usually upload images but I've had several times when I couldn't.

I'm not sure if there's some sort of size limit on the images or not but one image which failed to upload went through after I reduced its size.

I can upload the 211.9 KB version of this photo.

    attachment.php?attachmentid=112234&d=1418267855

But when I attempt to upload the 675.0 KB version I get this.

    attachment.php?attachmentid=112235&d=1418267950

Have you tried uploading smaller images?

Attached is an attempt to upload using the Manage Attachments tool. It is a 5600 byte gif It shows up as an empty question mark after uploading.

PS -- Well, that seems to have worked fine this time, wouldn't you know it. I can't seem to insert the image itself in line though as you did above Duane and I used to do. Are you using the WYSIWYG forum editor?

I opened the attached photo in a new tab and copy and paste the URL between IMG tags.

Use "Reply with Quote" so see the text I entered.

    attachment.php?attachmentid=112241&d=1418276089

I just checked my settings and yes, I'm using the WYSIWYG editor. And yes it's missing most of the menu options.

I used the "Reply with Quote" trick to see how to attach photos and also videos. I normally use the little icons. Adding links is also a pain nowadays but I'm starting to get used to using URL tags.

Thanks Duane. Did you actually enter in all the text between the img tags?

    ISL88003_cutoff.gif

    attachment.php?attachmentid=112242&d=1418276719

Okay, that did it. I copied the forum link to the image and pasted that in between the tags. I think I got it. About the missing WYSIWYG menu options, then I guess I'm not alone in that. Is that a consequence of the aborted forum software transition? All I have left is a choice of post icons. I added a sad face.

Yes, this is what I did. Fortunately I remembered the instructions Phil posted over four years ago. I'm guessing Phil has been do it this way all along. I myself miss the tools to make adding images etc. easier. Apparently when the new forum software failed they reverted to a simplified version of the current forum software.

In an effort to give this community back a useable forums as quickly as possible, our IT guys focused less on the details and more on stability and restoring the database.

Due to this being a temporary forums version, cosmetic issues probably wont receive attention as our IT team is focused on making the new upgrade work. This said, if a problem you encounter is interrupting your ability to use the forums (post/login/see threads) please email webmaster@parallax.com.

It's more cumbersome than the older icon menus but I'm using this link for codes:

It looks like color doesn't work in preview or post mode. My pdf image comes up with a question mark but
nothing there. My jpeg had a size limitation. I had to hold the cursor over the error to see the details of the complaint.

Thanks for the tips and the links. Saved the bb codes as a pdf for reference to refresh my lazy forgetful brain cells.

That's good to know. Good to point that out here.

I do see the link now in the FAQ too, at the end of the first paragraph found at FAQ/Board FAQ/Reading and Posting Messages.
