PAM-7Q GPS (28509) -- module removal

I'd like to use the new PAM-7Q (http://www.parallax.com/product/28509) in a project, but the PCB it's mounted on is larger than I can use. I see that there are easy to access contacts on the GPS module itself, but can the module be removed from the PCB (by desoldering) or is it attached permanently?

Thanks,
Katie

It doesn't look permanent. A hot air station could probably desolder the module, but why void the warranty when you could buy a slightly smaller module?

Indeed, they are exactly the same, but Parallax has a sale on it now with fast, free shipping (if I buy two).

Up to you if you want to incur the extra labor to extract the module from the Parallax product, and then may have to include level translator, regulators, supercaps on your new board.

If the module is used with a 3.3V device like a Propeller, then I don't think one would need level translators. I think it can be powered from 3.3V as well.

If you can, I'd use something like Chipquik to remove the module. Chipquick allows one to melt the solder without getting the part too hot. SparkFun used to sell it but I'm not sure where to buy it nowadays.

That sure looks like a nice GPS unit. I already have several other GPS modules but I'm sure tempted by this one.

Chipquik is available all over the place. Amazon, ebay.

It should work OK on the Parallax Module.

I got my last kit at Fry's in Las Vegas when I was doing a job. Boy did it save me some time!

Thanks to Leon for turning us on to this awesome product.!
