Your post will not be visible until a moderator has approved??

banjobanjo Posts: 447
edited 2015-01-03 23:32 in General Discussion
When replying to a thread I received this message: "Thank you for posting! Your post will not be visible until a moderator has approved it for posting."
Is this same for all non-moderators or is there some logic behind who can post directly and who needs to wait?

Edit: I've replied once more to this thread 1 hour ago but no sight of that post yet, similarly I replied 2 hours ago to another thread without anything popping up. I'll stop replying/helping to any posts for a while as I only get more confused and somewhat frustrated too with this behaviour, intentional or not. If I've broken any forum rules I apologise and would like to know where to improve :-)

I'm not sure what rules are in effect to mark a post as moderated, but I have approved this post, so it should show up.

Ok, it this new behaviour is permanent I do hope we have moderators covering all time zones. Personally I'm right now at GMT+3.
Has so far seen this message twice, let's see what happens when I submit this reply.

We used to have a Moderator in Israel, but she has been missing in action for at least a year. More EU moderators would be good. Parallax would have the final word on that.

This has happened to me. I think there's some sort of automatic trigger to cause a post to be held for moderation. IIRC it has something to do with links added to the post. I'm still not sure what triggered the my post when it was held. I add links to lots of my posts but apparently certain domains can trigger the "hold for moderation" routine.

Let's see what happens to this post of mine.

No moderation - it appeared immediately.

    I'll add a link: http://www.parallax.com/

    Again, no problem.

With a small stipend from Parallax, I'd be willing to set up camp on Mount Hermon and act as a Forum moderator. :)

(What is Israel's immigration policy on Americanos of Scandinavian descent?)

    Shalom!

It is working correctly for me again, don't know what the issue was but Bump probably fixed it somehow.

It was one of several random things I tried; banning you, turning the account back on, flushing your posts, or etc.
Very odd problem to encounter, but glad to hear you can post without having everything hidden behind a moderation shield.

OK, thx and glad that I wasn't banned (at least intentionally)!

Edit: Having same issue again even if it worked ok earlier today. Bump is troubleshooting it.

I have the same issue again even if it worked ok in between. Oh dear, back to the electronics instead of the forum...

This moderator approval thing just happened to me, trying to post here:
    http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php/159569-Kat-programmed-her-first-quot-Hello-World-quot-tonight!-)
    and here:
    http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php/159554-All_those-constants
and now of course here. Let's see what happens.

It's kind of disturbing. Am I banned? Did I say something terrible bad recently?

And annoying to lose the text of a post.

    What goes on here?

    Heater,

Did you post again, and then it went through? Forum software is kinda' funky right now and picks on now one in particular to be moderated, ( that is with existing members). I am trying to understand the problem myself.

I have no idea why the software has started moderating you, Heater. You are not banned, you haven't done anything wrong. This is just another example of the unfortunate quirks that appeared after the unsuccessful upgrade.

I've been going through your posts and approving them manually this morning, but Parallax is lightly-staffed today due to the holidays and unfortunately I doubt we will be able to have it investigated until after the weekend.

If any moderator sees unnecessary moderating of regular users' posts this weekend, please approve them asap.

I logged in about 3 hours after my usual time, ( 5:00 AM EST), I think BEAN caught all the SPAM and possibly un-moderated Heater's post. I don't think it was reported.

This VIP (!) got the "Your post will not be visible until a moderator has approved" message only once, on Christmas Eve. I was posting a message with Ron Czapala's name in the title, and I wondered if that had something to do with it. Not Ron specifically, but mentioning another forum member by name in the title. Probably wise to prevent flame wars and calling individuals out.

I posted a similar message sans name a moment later and it went through. After a while, my original post appeared as well. That's one way to rack up a lot of posts to get your VIP status, kiddies. Blame double posts on the forum software!

Workin' on it. Hopefully "Figure 8" doesn't get on the Blacklist. :)

No, I thought about reposting, then thought I'd give it time and see what happened. (Well actually I was too lazy to retype anything:)

Now those posts have gone through.

If the forum is seemingly randomly doing this and the mod's don't know what's going on I can speculate...

The forum software has become sentient. It's making decisions on it's own. Soon it will take control an ban all the moderators. The rest of us had better take care...

Oh, and why does the forum now log me out automatically after some short time?
