Basic stamp SX and the cmps10 compass

Well, it turns out that I could use alittle help on this one. As it turns out, I sannot use I2C to communicate with the CMPS10 compass, due to a long run of wire to the unit. This run is inside a cable of 15 wires. If I breadboard the same thing, using the same I2C code, the CMPS10 responds and gives proper angles.
So...I wanted to try using the serial communications that are available by grounding the mode pin...see documentation...of the CMPS10. I cannot figure out how to bit bang for "2 stop bits" or serialIN and serialOUT with it. Has anyone written code for this using the BS2sx. Appreciate your help on this one.
