On Tuesday, a window washer in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, was 10 floors up the side of a skyscraper when his lift malfunctioned.

Officials used the drone’s microphone to first “calm down the cleaner.” Then, using a camera attached to the flying robot, they identified what exactly was wrong with the rig. After that, the emergency crew on site instructed the worker how to fix the platform. He made it to the ground safely

Probably against all safety regulations, pretty much anything loose can't be taken along, can you imagine what might happen if his phone slipped out? It's like those places you go to the top of but you are not trusted to take your camera along or anything loose, but the reason you want to go is to take those great shots. So much for regulations, they take all the fun out of things, but I'm not going to drone on about it........

Could be. If so it is a little ridiculous to apply it to a cel phone. Screwdrivers, hammers, one pound tape measures and the like, yes - but not a cel phone. I am certain that a cel phone will reach terminal velocity in relatively little distance. Dropping a cel phone from 50 stories up is likely no worse than dropping one from a balcony a couple stories high, like you can find in many public places. Not having a means of communication is probably (should be) a safety violation too.

You can design all the safety measures you want to protect the workers and the public but it is amazing the lengths that people will go to to circumvent the safety measures themselves. Then you have to design safety measures on the safety measures, where does it stop? The guy delivering stuff to the construction site in NJ felt he didn't need safety measures but nobody ever needs them until they need them, which is very rare, thus contributing to the blas

“We want to reach to people before they reach us,”

... particular when those people are ten floors up, and we are directly below them

I was at an office Christmas party when a platform with two window washers on it malfunctioned. The motor on one end of the platform stayed on when they stopped the platform so it began to tilt. The worker on that end had his safety harness on so he ended up hanging from it. The guy on the other end did not have his safety harness on, and ended up hanging on the rope screaming his head off. Luckily for him he ended up outside of an office that was occupied. We smashed the window with the office chair and managed to haul him in before he lost his grip. The fire department arrived a couple of minutes later and hauled in the other one.

Amazing how stupid (and lucky) some people can be.
