Parallax 2x16 Serial LCD

Anyone please help? Can the serial interface of the Parallax 2x16 serial LCD (Product ID 27977) communicate with 5V RS232 protocol? I have an industrial PLC and would like to know if I can connect the PLC's TX from com port directly to the LCD's RX and send ASCII strings.
