HB 25 ESC not working....??

Hi folks

I am afraid I am a ‘newbie” on this forum, so hope I am posting this in the right place…

I have an electric speedboat which uses a HB-25 ESC 29144.

I am upgrading from a Futaba 2PH set up to a Futaba 2PL-2.4G FHSS transmitter and an R203GY receiver.

I have all the wiring in the right place, and have done all the linking. The RX drives the steering servo OK, but the ESC seems dead. I have checked with a meter – traction current is coming in and the ESC’s green LED is on. The lead from the RX has voltage across red-black and red-white. However, no fan running, and no output to the motor.

Can anyone advise, please?
Thanks

When you say no fan running, are you referring to the fan on the HB-25? That fan runs from the source voltage, so if the fan isn't running either there is no voltage going to the power supply terminals on the HB-25 or the fan has been damaged. As a note, the 3-wire servo cable doesn't provide any power to the HB-25, just GND and signal. The red power lead is not connected on the HB-25 side.

Also check the fuse. Those can blow for a variety of reasons. (At least it is my recollection that the fan will also not work if the fuse is blown.)

Gordon is correct. If the fuse is blown nothing will work on the HB-25. If it is in fact blown, you may want to double check everything to make sure you do not keep blowing fuses.

Ahem…. Well, that slithering, slurping noise you can hear is me sliding down behind my workbench in embarrassment.. .. As I cringe down there amongst the debris, I desperately look around for a crack in between the floorboards where I can hide my shame and loss of face…

Rule 1 is always try the simple things first… check the fuse.. ? well, I did that anyway, didn’t I? Or did I..? Well let’s have another look anyway.. So there it was, a neatly blown fuse…. Duh..! Cringe..! Grovel....!

So I shoot off down to the local filling station and dig around for a matching car fuse.. and I pop it in. Sure enough, on comes the fan, followed shortly by the howl of a 5045 motor coming “on song”… And yes I will watch for further blow-outs, and yes, I will resist the temptation to use the bodger-method of replacing a blown fuse with a 6-inch nail to stop it blowing again... (!)

Apologies to all, and thanks for your input…. ah well, at least this thread has served some purpose in teaching people to check the simple things first..!!!

    Thanks, team....

No worries Bboy - Even the "Great ones" like Chris, Gordon, and Andy have had EOF (Egg On Face) before too. Well, maybe not Gordon - he's someone high and lofty above us all

and...Welcome to the Forums! Keep us posted on how your projects are coming along :thumb:
