Win7 Program Installation Quirks

I've just gotten a new computer to replace the dead WinXP box in my shop. I was playing around with the S2 GUI installation package to make a special version with a modified s2.ini file. But every time I did the installation, the original s2.ini file got installed instead of the one in the new install package. Just to make sure the right file got compressed into setup.exe, I ran it on my WinXP laptop, and the new s2.ini file got installed. So no problems there.

Thinking it might be a disk caching problem on Win7, I turned off caching, uninstalled the S2 GUI, and restarted my computer. After running the new setup program, the old S2.ini file returned again instead of the new one.

Now, if I simply edit the file, the edits stick, and then that version becomes the zombie that keeps coming back to haunt me after a fresh install.

I am beside myself with befuddlement. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it?

The system registry is caching the ini file. I think you should be able to search your registry (regedt32) for something the ini file contains to find the keys and remove them.

The uninstaller should remove that stuff. Heater will explain more on why it doesn't :)

An often stagnant repository for settings which allow the computer to run faster, or not run at all haha.
